The Journey: A KBC Event Recap

Basketball enthusiasts were treated to non-stop action at the recent tournament hosted by the Kentucky Basketball Commission. The event, spanning from March 1st to March 3rd, 2024, saw young athletes across various age divisions showcase their skills at the Sports Center in Lexington, Kentucky. With age groups for 2nd-8th grade (excluding 3rd grade), there was no shortage of action!

2nd Grade Division

The competition kicked off with the Boys' 2nd Grade bracket. After two days of great competition, the last two standing were the Eagles and the Carlisle Musketeers. The Eagles controlled play from tipoff and walked away with the trophy after securing a 22-11 victory.

4th Grade Division

As the tournament progressed, the Boys' 4th Grade Championship saw the KBE Academy Team clash with Bluegrass Air. With an outstanding display of athleticism and strategy, Bluegrass Air dominated the court, triumphing with a resounding victory of 40-15 capping off a perfect weekend for the organization.

5th Grade Division

The tournament's fervour continued in the 5th-grade bracket. After two days of competition, all eyes were on the match-up between KBE Academy and CKY Extreme in the finals. After a great back-and-forth game, it was KBE Academy walking off the court with the trophy winning the final 56-39.

6th Grade Division

The 6th grade had two brackets on display for fans in attendance, with the Championship and Gold Brackets taking place this weekend. In the Championship bracket, the two teams left standing were the D-Hawk Tate team and the Louisville Crew. In the final, the D-Hawk Tate team took the victory 37-27.

Additionally, in the Gold Bracket, the KY Storm Elite - Blue team clinched the banner with a 42-33 victory over the EKY Focus team in the finals.

7th Grade Division

The intensity didn't drop as we moved into the 7th Grade Tournament, which also featured both a Championship and a Gold Bracket. In the finals of the Championship Bracket, we saw two great teams collide as the KBE Baller team matched up against the Cincy Dominators. In the final, the KBE Ballers team was able to get revenge for a previous loss to the Cincy Dominators winning the final 42-38.

Meanwhile, The D-Hawk Moore Blue claimed victory in the Gold Bracket by vanquishing the 3 Rivers team, ending with a score of 36-27.

8th Grade Division

Rounding out the event, the 8th Grade bracket saw the Chaos team seize the trophy. After a loss to the Complex 7 Team earlier in the tournament, the Chaos team was able to rebound and gain revenge in the final defeating the Complex 7 team by a final score of 58-47.
